Job Summary
The DevOps Engineer I supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and automation processes that enable efficient and reliable software delivery. This role works closely with development, operations, and data teams to assist in improving deployment processes, troubleshooting system issues, and maintaining cloud-based environments.
The DevOps Engineer I is an individual contributor role focused on learning, executing, and improving DevOps best practices under the guidance of senior engineers while building foundational expertise in automation, cloud platforms, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC).
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
CI/CD & Automation
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
- Support automation efforts to improve deployment consistency, reliability, and speed.
- Assist in maintaining build and release processes across development, test, and production environments.
- Manage and support version control processes using Git and established branching strategies.
Infrastructure as Code & Configuration Management
- Implement and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform.
- Support configuration management and automation using Ansible.
- Assist with provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of Azure cloud resources using ARM templates or Bicep where applicable.
- Contribute to improving repeatability and standardization of infrastructure deployments.
Cloud & Environment Support
- Support Azure-based infrastructure (IaaS and PaaS) to ensure performance, availability, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor and troubleshoot cloud and on-premises systems in collaboration with development and operations teams.
- Assist with containerized deployments using Docker.
- Support Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) environments.
Monitoring, Logging & Reliability
- Maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using tools such as Azure Monitor or similar platforms.
- Respond to system alerts and assist with root cause analysis.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance system reliability and performance.
Data & Deployment Enablement
- Support CI/CD processes for Snowflake and dbt workflows.
- Assist with automating dbt model deployments, version control, and testing.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines in partnership with the data engineering team.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with development, IT operations, and data teams to improve workflows and deployment practices.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and team planning activities.
Required Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Terraform for Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation.
- Experience with Azure services (IaaS, Azure DevOps, ARM).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Azure Pipelines, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
- Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Experience with Docker and exposure to Kubernetes or AKS.
- Working knowledge of Git version control.
- Foundational networking knowledge (LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers).
- Experience with monitoring/logging tools such as Azure Monitor.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, system administration, or a related technical role.
- Hands-on experience working with Terraform and Ansible in production environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Logic Monitor or Azure Monitor.
- Strong networking knowledge: LAN/WAN, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaboration tools like Azure Boards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certification (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate).
- Experience with Snowflake and dbt in a production environment.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and Azure Boards.
- Understanding of DevOps security best practices.
- Exposure to hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environments.
